Is Kratom Legal in the US?

Due to the fact that kratom is relatively new in the United States, its legal status is currently in a legal grey area. While kratom supplements are legal in most parts of the country, some jurisdictions have placed restrictions on its use, possession, and/or cultivation. There are currently six states in which kratom is considered illegal. There are also a few cities and counties in legal states where kratom use and possession are limited or banned.

Kratom in Alabama is currently illegal for use, possession, and purchase. However, there is pending legislation on kratom in the state. Additionally, Talladega County has a unique kratom ordinance

Kratom in Arizona is currently legal.

Kratom in Arkansas is currently illegal in all areas of the state for use, possession, and purchase.

Kratom in California is legal; however, it is banned in the city of San Diego.

Kratom in Colorado is legal, with the exception of Denver, where it is considered “illegal for human consumption.”

Kratom in Connecticut is currently legal.

Kratom in Delaware is currently legal.

Kratom in Florida is currently legal, though there are county-specific ordinances relating to kratom. At this time, it is banned in Sarasota County.

Kratom in Illinois is legal for use, with the exception of Jerseyville, Alton, and Edwardsville, where it is banned.
